FLORIDA’S 27TH DISTRICT

Congresswoman Maria Elvira Salazar represents Florida’s 27th Congressional District and serves on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the House Committee on Small Business. She is dedicated to defending individual rights, promoting economic development and job training, and enhancing environmental resiliency in South Florida. Known for her advocacy of human rights and democracy, she supports the people of Cuba, Venezuela, Bolivia, and Nicaragua, and backs global partners like Israel, Colombia, and Taiwan. A five-time Emmy Award-winning journalist, Salazar has worked for major Spanish-language networks and is noted for her interviews with figures like Fidel Castro, Nicolás Maduro, and Augusto Pinochet. Born in Miami's Little Havana to Cuban exiles, she studied at Miami Dade College, the University of Miami, and Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government. She lives in Coral Gables with her daughters, Nicoletta and Martina.
